Film Review - The Lone Ranger by Joan Fleming at 8digital...

Lawyer John Reid (Armie Hammer) strikes up a partnership with Comanche Indian Tonto (Johnny Depp).

Reid is on a mission with his brother and the Texas Rangers to capture notoriously ruthless Butch Cavendish whose penchant is to eat his victims. When the mission goes wrong, and Reid is left for dead, he pursues the bad guys with the help of the unconventional and sometimes unintelligible Tonto.

The film gallops into being with horse chases, train wrecks and some laughs. You are left breathless and exhausted in the beginning with relentless spectacular stunts and effects but unfortunately it was derailed with it's tired script.

The Pirates of the Caribbean team of Gore Verbinski and Jerry Bruckheimer undoubtedly pushed all thoughts of failure to the side and threw everything at this noisy boys' movie.

It plays like a franchise, a theme ride, a way to stretch the income out into Lone Ranger 2 and 3, losing focus and failing to connect with the audience. It's a technical masterpiece within a tired $250,000,000 formulaic framework and it's a great shame.

Opening weekend in the States took $29,210,849 (USA) (5 July 2013) with a current gross of $85,321,430 (USA) (26 July 2013) proving that audiences are ready for something different.

The best moments were those featuring the white horse and the quirky one legged Helena Bonham Carter deserved more screen time.

At 2hrs and 29 minutes its a long film for the kids. A 12A rating with some gory bits so be warned.

Best seen at the cinema for the effects - Rating – Mediocre"
